BPC-157
A synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide derived from a sequence described in gastric juice. Its literature is dominated by animal studies, many from the group that first described it.
This entry summarises published research. It is not guidance on use, and research-grade material is not for human or veterinary use.
What it is
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide of 15 amino acids. Its sequence was derived from a protein fraction described in gastric juice, and it is usually supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) acetate salt. In supplier catalogues it is filed under recovery or repair research areas.
What has been studied
Published research is mainly in animal models, especially of gastrointestinal and soft-tissue injury, with some cell work. Reviews of this literature come largely from the research group that first described the peptide. That is not a flaw in itself, but it means the field depends heavily on one laboratory’s methods.
Reading supplier listings
Vendors list BPC-157 by nominal mass per vial, for example 10 mg. A certificate should report both purity, measured by HPLC, and identity, confirmed by mass spectrometry. The measured content may differ from the label: one partner certificate we reviewed reported 9.72 mg in a 10 mg vial.
Regulatory status
Research vendors supply it as a laboratory reagent. None of the sources cited here describes it as an approved medicine, and we have not searched national registers for it. Confirm registration status with the authority in your country (see the country regulations pages).
Known limitations of the evidence
- Most published studies are in rodents, and a large share come from one research group.
- Independent replication and controlled human trials are scarce.
- Research-grade products vary; the material used in published studies may not match what a vendor sells.
