TB-500

A trade name for a short synthetic peptide fragment related to thymosin beta-4. Most of the cited research concerns full-length thymosin beta-4, not the fragment sold as TB-500.

Entry reviewed

This entry summarises published research. It is not guidance on use, and research-grade material is not for human or veterinary use.

What it is

TB-500 is a commercial name rather than a formal one. The PubChem record for TB-500 describes a short synthetic peptide (C38H68N10O14) related to a region of thymosin beta-4, a 43-amino-acid protein found in many tissues. Some vendors describe their product as thymosin beta-4 acetate, so check which molecule a certificate actually identifies.

What has been studied

Reviews describe thymosin beta-4 as a multifunctional regenerative peptide, based mainly on cell and animal research. Applying those findings to the short fragment sold as TB-500 is an extrapolation: the two molecules differ in size and may differ in activity.

Reading supplier listings

Ask what sequence the vendor supplies, and check that the mass-spectrometry result on the certificate matches that sequence’s molecular weight. A certificate that only reports purity cannot tell you which of the two molecules is in the vial.

Regulatory status

Research vendors supply it as a laboratory reagent. None of the sources cited here describes it as an approved medicine, and we have not searched national registers for it. Confirm registration status with the authority in your country (see the country regulations pages).

Known limitations of the evidence

  • Much of the literature cited for TB-500 is about full-length thymosin beta-4, a different molecule.
  • Vendors do not always state which sequence they supply; the PubChem record describes a short fragment.
  • Controlled human data for the marketed fragment are lacking.
